How much are people willing to pay to own a truly unique car, and why are Ferraris so expensive? This question, asked by billionaires and collectors from all over the world, is answered by Ferrari Special Projects (FSP), the most elite car club ever known. Today we will introduce you to all the cars that make up this exclusive garage, of course, all the famous ones, because there are models that still remain hidden under the strictest secrecy.
The most beloved cars in history
For seven decades, the Prancing Horse brand has been responsible for creating many of the best and most beloved cars in automotive history. The only limit is your imagination and your bank account, which is why the manufacturer allows only its best customers to create a Ferrari to order, putting at their disposal the best of its own engineers and designers to create a work of art in a limited edition, if not a single copy.
In this article, we will look at both unique Ferrari models - limited edition Ferrari models, and mass-produced, the cheapest. Cars that began as whims of their owners, and which in many cases are icons of a new era of design for the Italian brand. Do you know them all?
The most expensive Ferrari cars

Sp1 (2008) 3 million $
The Special Projects Department was created at the request of Japanese collector Junichiro Hiramatsu. He asked for inspiration from Leonardo Fioravanti's work to create a unique sports car based on the F430, which cost him $3 million. Hiramatsu was quick to point to the model that inspired him to create the special order - a prototype that was not recognized, but which Fioravanti christened the F100.

P540 Superfast Aperta (2009) 1.6M $
When you're the son of the inventor of cable TV, money is clearly no object. So Edward Walson commissioned Ferrari and Pininfarina to design a future classic—a sports car that would be a tribute to the Ferrari 330 LM built by Carroceria Fantuzzi, which appeared in Federico Fellini's 1968 short film The Devil's Got You, inspired by a story by Edgar Allan Poe.

Superamerica 45 (2011) 3m $
Peter Kalikov met with the brand to ask them for a new vision of the tilting roof concept introduced on the 575 Superamerica. They denied any possibility of seeing this solution on the 599 GTB, involving the FSP division. The result was a car with a targa philosophy, with minor aesthetic changes.

Sp12 Ec (2012) 4.7M $
Whether you like Eric Clapton's music or not, now you can envy him a little more. FSP has created a reimagined classic for Clapton, taking inspiration from the 512 BB "Berlinetta Boxer" and transforming a 458 Italia into a vintage sports car. From an aesthetic point of view, the SP12 EC can be considered one of the division's most successful projects.

SP30 / SP Arya (2012) 4.75M $
Also known as the mystery model, the final result of this order by Mr. Chirag Arya in the United Arab Emirates has never been seen in public. It was a design based on the 599 GTO, although it took cues from the later F12 Berlinetta. Most information about this order came through the patent office, where a complex aerodynamic package was highlighted.

Sp Fxx (2013)
Another of the most controversial and unknown projects. You may be familiar with the rumors of a redesign of the FF in order to integrate a third volume, well, the patents of this car are to blame for these assumptions. On a technical level, we see an FF that retains all its technologies, making only changes to the bodywork that present it as a competitive variant of the GT. This is certainly the most questionable design of the division.

Sergio (2014) 2.5M $
Introduced as the Pininfarina Sergio in 2013 as a tribute to the Italian designer, it was in 2014 that the division confirmed the production of the Sergio in a limited series of 6 units. Based on the 458 Spider, it retained all its technical characteristics to adapt to a completely new, never-before-seen bodywork, making as few changes as possible to maintain its barchetta philosophy and obtain homologation approval. Each unit was painted in a different color than the others.

F12 Sp 4 million $
The lucky owner of this sports car is Danny Wegman, CEO of Wegmans, who is said to have spent around $4 million to build his own unique interpretation of the legendary 250 GTO. The F12 SP America is a one-of-a-kind whim, with a Pininfarina body, though it was built in Maranello.

F12 Trs 4.2 million $
Perhaps the most special and exclusive of the special orders. There are 2 F12 TRS units ordered by the same customer, almost identical in design, but each in a different color: red and black, later changed to chrome gray. It was conceived as a concept and its design was developed by the Styling Center.

F60 America 2.7 million $
To mark the 60th anniversary of Ferrari's arrival in the United States, the brand is offering its VIP clients one of 10 examples of a very special convertible. This roadster is set to become a future auction record holder, as it features a completely custom design and an interior decorated in the colors of the American flag. Perfect for the very patriotic.

458 MM Speciale (2016) 3.3M $
Only one car was built for a British client, based on the 288 GTO. But the end result was a project that combined the best of the 488 GTB and 458 Challenge in terms of design. Its aim was to offer a track-focused design and aerodynamics.

Sp275 RW Competizione 2.3m $
It ended up in the hands of American Dr. Rick Workman, who asked to build a one-off model. This special order is based on the heart of the F12tdf, the 6.3 V12 engine, with a capacity of 780 hp. Its exterior design can be recognized by the features of the classic, as well as other special orders, such as the P540 Superfast Apera or the F60, with which it shared the presentation stage at the Daytona track.

J50 (2017) 3 million $
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the brand's presence in Japan, a series of 10 units, called the J50, was produced. Designed by the Ferrari Style Center, this limited edition offers an aesthetic that is completely unprecedented for the brand, with an angular front and rear, an open engine and optical groups inherited from the GTC4Lusso. Underneath its bodywork is the chassis and powertrain of the 488 Spider, with a 690 hp V8 Twin-Turbo engine.

Sp38 Deborah (2018) 2m $
In May 2018, at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, the company unveiled the SP38, a one-off model designed for a single customer by the brand's Style Center, led by Flavio Manzoni. Based on the 488 GTB and its 670 horsepower 3.8 V8 engine, the SP38 has features reminiscent of the J50. Interestingly, the owner of the SP38 was not revealed at the time of its debut. This model was presented with the nickname "Deborah" embroidered on the dashboard, as well as on other details such as the license plate holder.

Sp3jc (2018) 2.5 million $
A limited edition of two cars was unveiled at the end of November 2018, created for John Collins, owner of Talacrest. The SP3JC is a custom order that, given the level of customization, would have taken at least 3 years and 4 months to build. Although it shares similar characteristics with the Superfast, it is actually based on the F12tdf.

P80c (2019) 2 million $
This is the first racing car produced by the FSP division. A car designed for use on the track without restrictions. If we delve into its characteristics, the P80/C is based on the 488 GT3, from which it took the chassis and powertrain, but without the restrictions required by the FIA to participate in competitions. Its bodywork has been designed to prioritize cooling and aerodynamic needs, although at the same time it offers a very carefully thought-out design to fulfill the role of a show car.

Omologata (2020) 2.5 million $
A one-off order created to reimagine such outstanding classic models as the 250 GTO or the more modern 288 GTO. Despite maintaining the proportions of the 812, the Omologata's body is completely new and made of carbon fiber. Details such as the front end and the characteristic rear end make it unmistakably recognizable. The interior also uses special upholstery and exclusive finishes, leaving only the engine untouched, whose best calling card is the 800-horsepower 6.5-cylinder V12.

Br20 (2021) 3.5 million $
This creation based on the GTC4Lusso V12 brings back the essence of the classic 2+2 GT design, with a separate luggage compartment and a highly stylized design. It is a tribute to the 410 Superamerica and 500 Superfast models, but it is also a worthy successor to the last line of this type of three-volume body, represented by the 456M GT and 612 Scaglietti. Halfway between a stylish GT and a supercar, the BR20 is equipped with a 6.3-liter V12 engine capable of developing 690 hp.

Sp48 Unica (2022) 3M $
It is a work based on the F8 Tributo, but with a completely new body, developed by the division using innovative technologies such as 3D printing. With an aesthetic close to that of a concept car, as evidenced by the front bumper, the fully enclosed engine fairing and the double-domed roof, the SP48 Unica adopts some of the features that define the new generation of supercars (SF90 and 296). The interior and engine remain unchanged, retaining the two-seater configuration of the F8, as well as the 720 hp engine.

Sp51 (2022) 2.8 million $
Based on the 812 GTS, a Taiwanese collector commissioned the Italian manufacturer to develop a real roadster. After two years of development, the usual time for such orders, the result was the SP51, which develops the lines of the 812 to give it a more aggressive look, more pronounced lines and a cabin that must always be open-topped. Although the interior configuration has not changed, its design is also specific down to the smallest detail. The engine remains the same - a magnificent 6.5-liter V12 developing 800 hp.

KC23 (2023) 4.2 million $
The second track car produced by FSP is called the Ferrari KC23, also known as the SP57, and is considered an evolution of the 2019 P80/C. It is based on the 488 GT3 EVO, retaining all its technical specifications and racing-car-style cockpit, but has a completely new and unique body with a very sporty design, as well as impressive solutions such as the use of butterfly doors, a huge rear LED strip that protrudes from the body, or a rear spoiler that is removed when
KC23 is not used on the track.

SP-8 (2023) 4 million $
Created as a farewell to the entire saga that began with the 458 and then evolved into the 488 before the F8 appeared, the Ferrari SP-8 retained the 720 horsepower 3.9 V8 engine. Its design attracts attention. A roadster with a very sharp and futuristic aesthetic that also plays with light thanks to the use of a three-color configuration based on Argento Micalizzato, iridescent Blue Sandstone and Blu Scuro Stellato paint
Serial models
In 2018, the company introduced a new line in its portfolio, which will be located just below the special projects, offering, in turn, a unique and unprecedented vision, where each new launch will be dedicated to the brand's historic cars. The name of this new series is Icona Ferrari, its serial offer is limited to one model at the time of its production.

- Monza SP1 and SP2 (2018) 1.6 million $, 499 units
A very special, yet the cheapest Ferrari, paying homage to the racing cars of the 50s. The Monza has a velour design with a pronounced look, and was produced in single-seater versions Monza SP1, or two-seater SP2. Its technical base is the 812 Superfast, although 810 hp and a 6.5 V12 engine with natural aspiration.

- Daytona Sp3 (2021) 2.2 million $, 599 units
The Daytona SP3, the second creation in the Icona range, was unveiled at the end of 2021. It offers a decidedly modern and innovative vision, bringing to life a two-seater supercar with an 840 hp V12 engine located in the central rear. The chassis is based on the LaFerrari Aperta, but everything else has been rethought, resulting in a car without any trace of electrification and with the ability to remove the roof for open-air driving.
Conclusion
As you can see, Special Projects does not stop at satisfying its most demanding customers. It continues to develop and develop new Ferraris - the brand's most special limited editions. Truly limited editions with a maximum of ten copies, where in certain cases a tribute is paid to prestigious designers such as Pininfarina, Scaglietti, Zagato, Giugiaro or Fioravanti. So, the cheapest Ferraris are still among the most expensive cars in the automotive industry.
